Azilsartan, Chlorthalidone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Khat interacts with.

Human research shows that khat and its constituent, cathinone, can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, khat might reduce the effect of antihypertensive drug therapy. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Your Edarbyclor combines two blood pressure lowering medicines: azilsartan (which relaxes blood vessels) and chlorthalidone (a water pill that helps your body shed extra fluid and salt). Khat works in the opposite direction. Its main stimulant, cathinone, acts a lot like amphetamine and can actually push your blood pressure up and speed your heart.

So the worry here is simple: khat can work against your medication and blunt the blood pressure control you're trying to achieve. That could mean readings creeping higher than you and your doctor expect. The evidence is fairly limited, but it points in a real direction. On top of that, khat is a controlled substance and isn't legal here, so it's best avoided. If you're using it or thinking about it, please be honest with your pharmacist or doctor so they can check your numbers.
