Benazepril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Lithium interacts with.

Theoretically, taking lithium supplements with loop diuretics might increase lithium levels and adverse effects.
Thiazide diuretics and loop diuretics might reduce lithium excretion, particularly in sodium-restricted patients. If lithium is clinically indicated and other treatment options are unavailable or inadequate in patients using diuretics, lithium treatment can be initiated with extreme caution. Serum lithium should be measured frequently and the doses used should be the lowest dose ordinarily tolerated. It is unclear if this interaction would be clinically significant with the smaller doses found in lithium supplements.

Here's the key thing with Lotensin HCT: it contains hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Thiazides make your kidneys hold onto lithium instead of clearing it out, especially if you're low on sodium or a bit dehydrated. That means lithium can quietly build up in your blood, and lithium has a very narrow safe range. Even a small rise can push you toward side effects like tremor, nausea, increased thirst, confusion, or unsteadiness.

Now, this warning is based on pharmacology rather than strong studies, and it's really aimed at prescription lithium doses. With the tiny amounts in lithium orotate supplements, it's unclear if it matters much. Still, since both products affect fluids and minerals, please run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before taking them together.

Here's the thing to know about Lotensin HCT (benazepril plus hydrochlorothiazide) and lithium. Both pieces of this pill can make your body hold onto lithium. The water pill (hydrochlorothiazide) makes you lose sodium, and the ACE inhibitor (benazepril) changes how the kidneys handle things, so less lithium gets flushed out. That can let lithium build up.

If lithium climbs too high, you might notice tremor, nausea, increased thirst, confusion, or unsteadiness. Lithium has a narrow safety window, so even small shifts matter.
