Drug & supplement interaction

Manganese + Pramlintide

Pramlintide brand name: Symlin.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Manganese and Pramlintide in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Manganese and Pramlintide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Pramlintide and Manganese in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Pramlintide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Pramlintide is filed under a single classification — antidiabetes drugs. Manganese has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antipsychotic drugs (moderate), quinolone antibiotics (moderate) and tetracycline antibiotics (moderate) — and none of Pramlintide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Manganese and Pramlintide May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Reported for Manganese but not commonly for Pramlintide: low blood pressure, fainting, memory problems and liver problems.

Effects for Pramlintide come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Manganese come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 102 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Pramlintide that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

Special populations

Manganese in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Lactation Likely Safe

When used orally and appropriately. Manganese is safe when used in doses below the tolerable upper intake level (UL) of 11 mg daily during pregnancy or lactation in those aged 19 or older. However, those under 19 years of age should limit doses to less than 9 mg daily.

Lactation Possibly Unsafe

When used orally in excessive doses. Doses over the UL are associated with a greater risk of toxicity. Additionally, observational research shows that adults with higher blood manganese levels have greater odds of delivering low birth weight or small for gestational age (SGA) male, but not female, infants.

Lactation Likely Unsafe

When inhaled at moderate doses, long-term. Manganese salts can cross the placenta, and animal research suggests that large amounts of manganese may be teratogenic.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Pramlintide

This page covers Manganese only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Pramlintide page lists 239 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate), Agaricus Mushroom (moderate) and Agmatine (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 208 moderate · 30 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pramlintide page

“The single entry rated major on the pramlintide (Symlin) list is Siberian cocklebur, which has caused severe hypoglycemia in humans, not just in lab studies. That matters more than usual here because pramlintide is injected at mealtimes alongside insulin, and a dangerous low is already the main hazard of that pairing.”

About Manganese

What is Manganese?

Manganese
  • Bone health support
  • Antioxidant and enzyme support
  • Filling dietary gaps
  • Metabolism support
  • Wound healing

Manganese is an essential trace mineral your body needs in small amounts for bone formation, metabolism, and antioxidant defense, and most people get enough from a normal diet. Supplements may help if you have a genuine deficiency, but too much can be harmful—especially to the nervous system—so do not take high doses without guidance from a pharmacist or doctor.

Mineral (dietary trace element) · Tablets, capsules, gummies, liquid drops, part of multivitamin/mineral and bone-health products

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Manganese is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Manganese record says about it on its own.

Manganese: dosing

There is no single "treatment dose" of manganese for most health goals. Health authorities have set recommended daily intakes for general nutrition and an upper limit that you should not exceed, because higher amounts increase the risk of harm. Most people meet their needs through food alone. If a supplement is recommended, the amount in a typical multivitamin or bone-health product is usually enough.

About Pramlintide Injection

What Is Pramlintide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Symlin

SymlinPen (pramlintide) is used as an add-on treatment for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who already use mealtime insulin but still haven't reached their target blood sugar levels — even with optimal insulin therapy.

It is not a replacement for insulin. It works alongside insulin, given right before major meals, to reduce the spike in blood sugar that happens after eating.

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes. Pramlintide is filed under 1 classification, and Manganese has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — none of Pramlintide's classifications are among them. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded in our dataset, so this describes how the check was run rather than guaranteeing safety.
Does Manganese interact with any other medications?
Yes. Manganese has 83 documented drug interactions in our database — Pramlintide is simply not one of them. If you take anything else, it is worth checking each one; they are all listed on this page.
Does Pramlintide interact with any supplements?
Yes. Pramlintide has documented interactions with 239 supplements in our database — Manganese is not one of them. The Pramlintide interaction page linked on this page lists every one, ranked by severity.
