HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Flucloxacillin
Flucloxacillin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing concentrated cinnamon supplements with flucloxacillin. Cassia cinnamon like Padang naturally contains coumarin, which in large supplement doses can stress the liver. Flucloxacillin itself already carries a known, though uncommon, risk of liver injury (sometimes showing up as jaundice, dark urine, or fatigue even a week or two after finishing the course). So the worry isn't a chemical reaction between the two, it's that you'd be putting two liver stressors on board at once.
Good news: using cinnamon as a normal kitchen spice is not a concern here. This caution is really about concentrated capsules or extracts. The evidence is theoretical, but to be safe, chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you notice any yellowing of the skin or eyes.

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
