HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Methenamine Mandelate
Methenamine Mandelate falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with this pairing. Padang cassia, like other cassia cinnamons, naturally contains coumarin, a compound that in very large amounts has been linked to liver stress. Your medication can also put some strain on the liver. So the worry is simply additive: two things leaning on the liver at the same time may add up in sensitive people.
I want to be honest that this concern is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave, not on real cases with this exact drug. Cinnamon used as a normal kitchen spice is very unlikely to matter. The caution applies more to concentrated cinnamon supplements taken daily, especially if you have any liver problems. Watch for fatigue, yellowing skin or eyes, or dark urine, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a cinnamon supplement.

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
About Methimazole
What Is Methimazole Used For?
Brand names: Mandelamine, Methimazole
Methimazole tablets are used in adults and children with hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid) due to Graves' disease or toxic multinodular goiter when surgery or radioactive iodine is not the right option. They work to lower thyroid hormone levels and ease symptoms.
Methimazole tablets are also used to bring thyroid hormone levels down before a patient undergoes thyroidectomy (thyroid surgery) or radioactive iodine treatment, making those procedures safer.
