HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Pravastatin Sodium
Pravastatin Sodium falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: this isn't about Padang cassia changing how pravastatin works in your body. Both pravastatin and concentrated cinnamon can, on rare occasions, be hard on the liver. The concern is that stacking two things that lean on your liver might add up, especially if you already have liver problems or take other liver-stressing medicines.
To be clear, this is a theoretical caution based on coumarin in cassia cinnamon, not strong human proof, and pravastatin liver trouble is uncommon. The cinnamon you sprinkle on food is not the worry here. It's the high-dose cinnamon supplements that could matter. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting a concentrated cinnamon product.

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
About Pravastatin
What Is Pravastatin Used For?
Brand name: Pravachol
Pravastatin Sodium tablets are used alongside a cholesterol-lowering diet to treat high LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol), high triglycerides (blood fats), and abnormal cholesterol levels. They are approved for adults and for children ages 8 and older with a hereditary form of high cholesterol called heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).
In people without known heart disease, pravastatin helps reduce the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular death. In people who already have coronary heart disease (CHD), it is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, coronary death, stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), and procedures to restore blood flow to the heart — and to slow the buildup of plaque in the arteries.
