Roflumilast falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.

In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the gist for roflumilast (Daliresp, Zoryve). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break this medicine down. In lab dishes, an extract of Padang cassia slowed that same enzyme. If that happened in your body, roflumilast could clear out a little slower and build up, which might mean stronger side effects like nausea, diarrhea, headache, trouble sleeping, weight loss, or low mood.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes only from test-tube research, not real people, so it's theoretical. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated cinnamon capsules are a different story. Before starting any cinnamon supplement, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.

About Roflumilast

What Is Roflumilast Used For?

Brand names: Daliresp, Zoryve

Daliresp and roflumilast tablets are used to reduce the risk of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) flare-ups in adults with severe COPD linked to chronic bronchitis who have had flare-ups in the past. They are not rescue inhalers and will not relieve a sudden breathing attack.

Zoryve cream is used topically to treat plaque psoriasis (adults and children 2+) and mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children as young as 2. Zoryve topical foam is used to treat seborrheic dermatitis (adults and children 9+) and plaque psoriasis of the scalp and body (adults and children 12+).
