Cariprazine Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear cariprazine (Vraylar). In test-tube studies, passion flower seemed to gently speed up that enzyme, though far less powerfully than known strong inducers. If that effect carried over into real life, it could theoretically lower your cariprazine levels a bit, which might make it slightly less effective at controlling symptoms like mood swings, mania, or psychosis.

The honest takeaway: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab data, rated minor, so for most people occasional passion flower likely won't cause a noticeable problem. Still, since both can affect how you feel and passion flower is calming, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them regularly.

What Is Cariprazine Used For?

Brand name: Vraylar

Vraylar (cariprazine) is approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and teens 13 and older, and to treat acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder in adults and children 10 and older. In adults, it is also approved for depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression).

Additionally, Vraylar is approved as an add-on therapy alongside antidepressants for adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who need extra help beyond their current antidepressant alone.
