Evidence from animal research shows that a Pinellia ternata preparation decreases activity and increases sleeping time. Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of CNS depressants. Some of these medications include antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.

Here's the gist for Phenacemide (Phenurone), an older seizure medicine that quiets down the nervous system. The concern with Pinellia ternata is that, in animal studies, it seemed to calm activity and lengthen sleep. So the worry is that pairing the two could add up, leaving you more drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or slowed down than usual.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is based on lab and animal work, not real human cases, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Phenacemide itself is a heavy-hitting drug with serious risks, so I wouldn't combine it with any herbal sedative on your own. Please run this past your doctor or pharmacist first.
