Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
BETA-ADRENERGIC AGONISTS
Why this applies to Fluticasone, Salmeterol
Fluticasone, Salmeterol falls under BETA-ADRENERGIC AGONISTS — the group Pu-erh Tea interacts with.
Pu-erh tea contains caffeine. Caffeine can increase cardiac inotropic effects of beta-agonists.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Advair contains two medicines: fluticasone (an inhaled steroid) and salmeterol (a long-acting beta-agonist that opens your airways). The piece that matters here is salmeterol. Pu-erh tea brings caffeine to the table, and caffeine can add a little extra stimulation to the heart on top of what a beta-agonist already does.
In plain terms, drinking a lot of strong pu-erh while using Advair might make your heart beat a bit harder or faster, and you could notice jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, or shakiness. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on how caffeine and beta-agonists work, not strong human studies. A normal cup or two is unlikely to be a problem. If you drink large amounts or feel palpitations, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
