Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's a twist worth knowing about: with Premique, it's actually the estrogen part affecting your tea, not the other way around. The estrogens in this medication can slow down how your body clears caffeine. Since pu-erh tea contains caffeine, that caffeine may stick around longer and hit a little harder than usual.

In real life, that might mean feeling jittery, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach from your usual cup or two. This is more of a theoretical, mild concern than a dangerous one, and your hormone therapy itself works just fine alongside tea. If caffeine seems to bother you more lately, simply cutting back or switching to decaf usually does the trick. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.
