Here's the situation with fluoxetine (Prozac) and rauwolscine. Antidepressants like fluoxetine can slightly lower the seizure threshold, meaning they make the brain a little more prone to a seizure. Rauwolscine, a strong stimulant related to yohimbine, may do something similar. Stacked together, the theory is that the combined effect could nudge that risk a bit higher.

I want to be honest with you: this is based only on animal lab research, not real-world human reports, so the actual risk is likely small for most people. Still, rauwolscine can crank up heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety, which doesn't pair well with an antidepressant. If you're considering this combo, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the idea in plain terms. Fluoxetine (Prozac) is cleared in part by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Rauwolscine is a cousin of yohimbine, and in lab dish studies yohimbine seems to slow that enzyme down. If rauwolscine does the same in people, your body might clear fluoxetine a little more slowly, letting levels drift upward. That could mean more of fluoxetine's usual side effects, like jitteriness, trouble sleeping, nausea, or headache.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based on lab data, not real patient cases, so it may not amount to much. Still, rauwolscine on its own can raise heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety, which overlaps with how fluoxetine can feel. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Fluoxetine is approved to treat four conditions: major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa (a binge-eating and purging disorder), and panic disorder — with or without agoraphobia (fear of situations that feel hard to escape).

It works for adults across all four conditions, and for children and teens with depression (ages 8–18) and OCD (ages 7–17).
