Rhodiola + Isradipine
Isradipine brand name: Dynacirc CR.
Isradipine falls into 2 drug categories that Rhodiola can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, taking rhodiola with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Rhodiola interacts with whole categories of medication. Isradipine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Rhodiola in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Isradipine
Isradipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Rhodiola interacts with.
In vitro and animal research shows that rhodiola extract inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and might lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: isradipine (Dynacirc CR) is a calcium channel blocker that lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Rhodiola, in lab and animal studies, seems to nudge blood pressure down too, possibly by blocking an enzyme called ACE. So the worry is mostly about doubling up on a blood-pressure-lowering effect, not about rhodiola changing how your body processes the drug.
If the two stack together, your pressure could dip too low. That can leave you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or flushed, especially when you stand up quickly. Keep in mind this is a theoretical concern based on early lab and animal data, so it's far from certain. Still, before adding rhodiola, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and let them know if you notice any of those symptoms.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Isradipine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that rhodiola inhibits CYP3A4. This effect is highly variable and appears to be dependent on the rhodiola product studied. However, a clinical study in healthy young males found that taking rhodiola extract 290 mg daily for 14 days does not inhibit the metabolism of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for isradipine: your liver clears it using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Rhodiola has shown in lab (test tube) studies that it can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in your body, isradipine could build up a bit, which might make its blood-pressure-lowering effect stronger. That could mean things like dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, flushing, or swelling in your ankles.
The good news is that the real-world evidence is weak. This is mostly theoretical, and one human study found rhodiola did not meaningfully slow CYP3A4. The effect also seems to vary a lot between products. Still, since isradipine is a blood pressure medicine, it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor before starting rhodiola so they can keep an eye on your readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Isradipine page
“Grapefruit is the first thing I mention to anyone taking isradipine (Dynacirc CR). This blood pressure medicine is cleared by an enzyme called CYP3A4, and grapefruit blocks that enzyme, so drug levels can climb and blood pressure can fall further than intended.”

- Stress and coping (adaptogen)
- Mental performance and focus
- Mild depression
- Physical and exercise performance
Rhodiola is an herb traditionally used to fight fatigue and help the body cope with stress. Some small studies suggest it may modestly reduce fatigue and improve mood, but the evidence is limited and not strong. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
