Here's the gist with your birth control pill (Logynon or Microgynon contains ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel). Rooibos has been shown, but only in test-tube studies, to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Since the estrogen part of your pill is partly handled by this enzyme, the theory is that rooibos could let a little more of it linger in your system. That might slightly nudge up estrogen-type side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or bloating.

Honestly, though, this is weak, lab-only evidence, and a cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause real trouble. The bigger caution is with concentrated rooibos extracts. If you're using those, just give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up.

Your birth control pill mixes ethinyl estradiol with levonorgestrel, and your liver clears both hormones partly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. In test tube studies, a concentrated rooibos extract slowed that enzyme down. In theory, blocking it could let a little more hormone linger in your body, which might nudge up side effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or spotting.

Here's the honest part: this is only lab data, not something seen in real people, and it involved strong rooibos extracts, not a regular cup of tea. So enjoying rooibos as a drink is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're thinking about concentrated rooibos capsules, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
