Ibrutinib brand name: Imbruvica.
Rooibos has a moderate interaction with Ibrutinib. Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Ibrutinib
Ibrutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear ibrutinib from your system. Lab studies hint that concentrated rooibos extract may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in a person, ibrutinib could build up to higher levels than expected, which can mean more of its known side effects, like bruising and bleeding, diarrhea, fatigue, muscle aches, or heart rhythm changes.
The reassuring part is that this is theoretical, based only on test-tube research using a strong rooibos extract, not real people. A regular cup or two of rooibos tea is unlikely to cause trouble. I'd be more cautious with concentrated rooibos supplements. Since ibrutinib is a serious cancer medicine, please run any rooibos products by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ibrutinib page
“Ibrutinib (Imbruvica) treats blood cancers such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and because the drug itself makes bruising and bleeding more likely, adding the wrong supplement here can carry real consequences. Most of the entries below have blood-thinning or antiplatelet activity that stacks on top of that built-in bleeding risk.”

About Rooibos
What is Rooibos?
- Caffeine-free beverage
- Antioxidant support
- Heart health
- Blood sugar support
- Digestive upset
- General wellness
Rooibos is a caffeine-free herbal tea from South Africa that is rich in antioxidants and generally considered safe as a beverage. While lab and early studies suggest possible benefits for heart health, blood sugar, and inflammation, strong human evidence is lacking for most medical uses. Enjoy it as a tea, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated extracts for health reasons.
About Ibrutinib
What Is Ibrutinib Used For?
Brand name: Imbruvica
Imbruvica (ibrutinib) is used in adults to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), including cases with a specific genetic change called 17p deletion. It is also used in adults to treat Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare type of slow-growing blood cancer.
Imbruvica is also approved for adults and children aged 1 year and older with chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) — a serious immune complication that can occur after a stem cell or bone marrow transplant — when at least one prior treatment has not worked.
