Here's the gist for your Ortho Evra (Evra) patch, which delivers the hormones norelgestromin and ethinyl estradiol. Lab studies suggest rooibos may gently block an enzyme called CYP1A2, one of the pathways that helps clear estrogen from your body. In theory, slowing that breakdown could let estrogen levels run a little higher, which might mean more of the usual estrogen-type effects like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or bloating.

That said, this is very early evidence (test-tube only) and not proven in people, so a cup or two of rooibos tea is unlikely to cause real trouble. Concentrated rooibos extracts are the bigger unknown. If you drink it daily or use extracts, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

If you're using the Ortho Evra (Evra) patch, the hormones in it (norelgestromin and ethinyl estradiol) are partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, a strong rooibos extract slowed that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a little more estrogen build up in your system, which might mean more of the usual nuisances like nausea, breast tenderness, headaches, or spotting.

Here's the reassuring part: this is based only on lab research, not real people, and a normal cup or two of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause any of this. The concern would be more about concentrated rooibos capsules or extracts. If you enjoy the tea daily or are thinking about an extract, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
