Saffron + Levorphanol
Levorphanol brand name: Levo-Dromoran.
Saffron has a moderate interaction with Levorphanol. Theoretically, concomitant use of saffron and CNS depressants might have additive sedative effects.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Levorphanol
Levorphanol falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Saffron interacts with.
Clinical research shows that taking saffron extract 60 mg orally daily for 26 weeks can cause drowsiness and sedation. Animal research suggests that adding saffron to hexobarbital further increases sleeping and slows motor activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: levorphanol is a strong opioid pain reliever, and one of its main effects is slowing down your brain and nervous system. That's what eases pain, but it also brings drowsiness, slowed breathing, and a foggy or sleepy feeling. Saffron, in higher supplement doses, has its own mild calming, sedating effect. Stack the two and those sleepy effects could add up.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each one behaves rather than strong human studies. Saffron doesn't change how levorphanol is broken down, so it's not making the drug stronger directly, just potentially adding to the drowsiness. A sprinkle of saffron in cooking is unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplements are a different story. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Levorphanol page
“Most of the ingredients that interact with levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran) pile onto the same hazard, deeper sedation. Because levorphanol is a potent opioid painkiller, that stacking can slow breathing rather than just cause drowsiness, so this page deserves real vigilance before you add a supplement to it.”

About Saffron
What is Saffron?
- Depression and low mood
- Anxiety
- PMS symptoms
- Memory and cognition
- Eye health (age-related macular degeneration)
Saffron is a costly spice that has shown promise in early studies for mild-to-moderate depression and some mood and PMS symptoms, but most research uses small trials, so results are not definitive. It is generally well tolerated in food and small supplement amounts, but high doses can be harmful and it should be avoided in pregnancy. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using saffron supplements.
About Levorphanol
What Is Levorphanol Used For?
Brand name: Levo-Dromoran
Levorphanol Tartrate Tablets are used to manage pain severe enough to require an opioid — specifically when non-opioid or other pain treatments haven't provided enough relief or aren't a good fit for the patient.
It is not meant for everyday or mild pain. Prescribers weigh the serious risks of opioid therapy carefully before choosing this medication, and it should be used for only as long as the pain requires it.
