Thiotepa falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's something worth knowing about Thiotepa: it's actually a prodrug. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to convert it into TEPA, the active form that does the cancer-fighting work. So this enzyme isn't just clearing the drug, it's switching it on.

Now, animal and lab studies hint that Schizonepeta may speed up CYP3A4. On paper, that could shift how much active drug you get and may even change the balance of toxic byproducts. With a chemotherapy drug, even small changes in levels matter, so I wouldn't want to guess. Keep in mind this is only theoretical, based on animal data, not human studies. Still, please loop in your oncology team before adding this herb. They watch your dosing too closely to risk surprises.

About Thiotepa Injection

What Is Thiotepa Injection Used For?

Brand names: Thioplex, Tepadina

Tepadina (thiotepa) injection is used for several purposes. It treats adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer) of the breast or ovary. It is also used to control malignant effusions — abnormal fluid buildup in body cavities caused by cancer spreading to those areas. For bladder cancer, Tepadina treats superficial papillary carcinoma of the urinary bladder.

Tepadina is also used in pediatric patients with class 3 beta-thalassemia (a severe inherited blood disorder). In those patients, it is given as part of a preparative regimen — a conditioning treatment to reduce the risk of graft rejection before an allogeneic stem cell transplant (a transplant using donor stem cells), alongside the chemotherapy drugs busulfan and cyclophosphamide.
