Swamp Milkweed + Montelukast Sodium
Montelukast Sodium brand name: Singulair.
We found no known interaction between Swamp Milkweed and Montelukast Sodium in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Swamp Milkweed and Montelukast Sodium
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Montelukast Sodium and Swamp Milkweed in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Montelukast Sodium
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Montelukast Sodium is filed under 2 classifications — cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) substrates, oral drugs. Swamp Milkweed has documented interactions with 7 drug classes — the most serious being digoxin (lanoxin) (major), quinine (major) and corticosteroids (moderate) — and none of Montelukast Sodium’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Swamp Milkweed Does Interact With Other Medications

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Montelukast Sodium page
“If you rely on montelukast (Singulair) for asthma or allergies, this list deserves genuine attention. The one major-rated concern is activated charcoal, which can soak up the medicine in your gut before it absorbs, leaving you with a weaker dose just when your airways need a steady one.”

About Swamp Milkweed
What is Swamp Milkweed?
- Traditional digestive remedy
- Diuretic (increasing urine)
- Cough and respiratory complaints
- Worm or parasite remedy (folk use)
- Pollinator/garden plant rather than medicine
Swamp Milkweed is a native North American wetland plant best known today as a butterfly and pollinator garden plant, not a proven medicine. It contains toxic milky sap with cardiac glycoside-like compounds, and there is very little reliable human research to support any health use. Because of its potential toxicity, it should not be used as a supplement without professional guidance.
Asclepias incarnata · Apocynaceae · Root, and historically other parts of the plant · Dried root, tinctures, and traditional decoctions (rarely sold as a commercial supplement)
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Swamp Milkweed is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Swamp Milkweed record says about it on its own.
Swamp Milkweed: dosing
There is no established safe or standardized dose for Swamp Milkweed. It is not a mainstream supplement, and reliable products with verified content are not generally available.Because of the plant's toxicity and the lack of research, we cannot recommend any specific amount. For most people, the safest approach is to enjoy Swamp Milkweed as a garden plant rather than to consume it.

About Montelukast
What Is Montelukast Used For?
Brand name: Singulair
Montelukast is used for long-term control of asthma, to prevent exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (airways tightening during exercise), and to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis. The age ranges differ by product.
It is not for treating a sudden asthma attack. For allergic rhinitis, it is meant for people who have not responded well to, or cannot tolerate, other treatments. Oral granules are labeled for asthma and allergic rhinitis, but not for exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.
