Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the effects of some anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs and increase the risk of bleeding.
Sweet woodruff contains coumarin and coumarin derivatives. However, the levels of coumarin found in sweet woodruff are so low that clinically relevant effects are doubtful. Until more is known, use with caution.

Here's the simple version: dabigatran (Pradaxa) is already a powerful blood thinner, and sweet woodruff contains a natural compound called coumarin that can have a mild blood-thinning effect of its own. Stacking the two could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk a little higher. With dabigatran, that might show up as easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or, more rarely, more serious bleeding.

The good news is that this is only a theoretical concern. The amount of coumarin in sweet woodruff is very low, so a real-world problem is unlikely, especially with small culinary amounts. Concentrated supplement doses are more of a question mark. Since dabigatran leaves little room for error, please run any sweet woodruff use past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Sweet woodruff is a fragrant European herb traditionally used for digestion, calming, and various other complaints, but solid human evidence for any of these uses is lacking. It contains coumarin, which can be harmful in large amounts, so it should be used only sparingly and avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Dabigatran

What Is Dabigatran Used For?

Brand names: Pradaxa, Pradax

Dabigatran etexilate capsules are approved for adults to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism (blood clots traveling through the body) in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem). Capsules are also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT — a blood clot in a deep vein, usually the leg) and pulmonary embolism (PE — a clot in the lungs), to prevent those clots from coming back, and to prevent DVT and PE in adults who have had hip replacement surgery.

For children, the capsule form is approved for treating VTE (venous thromboembolism — blood clots in veins) and reducing recurrence in patients aged 8 to under 18. Pradaxa Oral Pellets are approved specifically for children aged 3 months to under 12 years for the same treatment and recurrence-prevention purposes.
