Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Talwin Compound is a combination product, and the part that matters here is the aspirin. Aspirin already thins the blood by keeping platelets from clumping together. Terminalia, in lab studies, appears to do something similar, so pairing the two could in theory add up and raise your chances of bleeding or bruising. Think along the lines of nosebleeds, bleeding gums, easy bruising, or a small cut that takes longer to stop.

The good news is that this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not solid human studies, so the real-world risk is uncertain. Still, since both can affect clotting, it is worth running it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you ever notice unusual bleeding.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Pentazocine page

“Talwin Compound pairs pentazocine, an opioid painkiller, with aspirin, and I read its supplement list with more concern than most. The great majority of entries do one of two things: raise the bleeding risk that aspirin already carries, or deepen the sedation pentazocine causes.”

  • Immune support

Terminalia is a group of traditional Ayurvedic tree species (most notably Terminalia arjuna) used for heart, digestive, and general wellness purposes. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a heart condition.
