Amiloride, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the simple version: tree turmeric (from its main ingredient, berberine) may gently lower blood pressure on its own. Your Moduretic, which combines amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, already brings your blood pressure down by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and water. Put the two together and the effects can stack up, so your blood pressure could dip lower than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or unusually tired, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this concern is mostly based on animal studies and one trial with a different blood pressure drug, so it's more theoretical than proven. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and let them know if you notice any of those symptoms.

What Is Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Moduretic, Amilzide, Moduret 25, Amil-Co

Amiloride hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) or congestive heart failure who tend to develop low potassium (hypokalemia) when taking a thiazide or other diuretic alone — or for whom keeping potassium levels in a normal range is especially important, such as people taking digoxin or those with significant heart rhythm problems.

The tablets may be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medicines, such as methyldopa or beta blockers. This combination product is not intended as the first-choice treatment for swelling (edema) or high blood pressure unless low potassium is a specific concern.
