Amlodipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the simple version: amlodipine already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Tree turmeric (and its active part, berberine) appears to nudge blood pressure in that same direction. So when you stack them, the lowering effect can add up. In fact, some human studies that paired berberine with amlodipine saw bigger drops in both top and bottom numbers than amlodipine alone.

That can be helpful, but it can also tip too far. Watch for things like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, unusual tiredness, or swollen ankles getting worse. The evidence here is fairly limited, so don't panic, but please don't start tree turmeric on your own. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your home blood pressure readings.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the gist: your body clears amlodipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The berberine in tree turmeric can partly slow that enzyme down. When that happens, amlodipine may not be broken down as quickly, so more of it can build up in your system than usual.

Amlodipine isn't a prodrug, so higher levels generally mean a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect. That could show up as dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand, flushing, headache, or swelling in your ankles. The research here is mostly lab work plus some early human data, so it's a real but moderate concern, not a crisis. Occasional culinary amounts matter less than concentrated berberine supplements. Before adding tree turmeric, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your blood pressure.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norliqva

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
