Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the gist: amlodipine already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Tree turmeric (and its main ingredient, berberine) seems to nudge blood pressure lower too. Put them together and those effects can stack up, so your reading may drop more than you expect. That could leave you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or a bit flushed, especially when you stand up quickly.

To be fair, most of this comes from animal work, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a guaranteed problem. Still, a few human studies hint berberine plus amlodipine does push pressure lower. If you'd like to try it, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your blood pressure rather than changing anything on your own.

Here's the short version: your body clears amlodipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Berberine, the main active compound in tree turmeric, appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. When the cleanup slows, more amlodipine can hang around in your system, which can make its blood-pressure-lowering effect stronger than expected.

For amlodipine, that usually shows up as ankle and foot swelling, lightheadedness or dizziness (especially when standing up), flushing, headache, or a faster heartbeat. This is rated a moderate, likely interaction, though much of it comes from lab work and early human data, so the size of the effect in real life isn't fully nailed down. Concentrated berberine supplements are far more likely to matter than tiny culinary amounts. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Katerzia

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
