These two interact in 4 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 4 Interactions?
Tree Turmeric interacts with whole categories of medication. Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate falls into 4 of those categories, so it can interact with Tree Turmeric in 4 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 4Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate
Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product contains codeine, an opioid that can make you drowsy, slow your breathing, and cause that foggy, sluggish feeling. The concern here is simple addition: berberine (the active part of tree turmeric) showed mild sedative effects in animal studies, so layering it on top of codeine could, in theory, leave you sleepier or more lightheaded than codeine alone would.
I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is based only on lab and animal work, not human studies, so it is a theoretical caution rather than something proven. Concentrated berberine supplements are more likely to matter than tiny culinary amounts. If you take this codeine product, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric, and watch for extra drowsiness.

CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
2 of 4Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the wrinkle with this combo product: the codeine part is a prodrug, meaning your body has to convert it into morphine before it does much for pain. That conversion is handled by an enzyme called CYP2D6. Berberine, the active piece of tree turmeric, may gently block that enzyme. So in theory, less codeine gets turned into morphine, which could mean weaker pain relief for you.
The good news is this is based mostly on lab work and a little early human data, so it's not a sure thing. The aspirin and caffeine parts aren't really affected here. If you're using this medication for pain, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric so they can keep an eye on how well it's working.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 4Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
This combination product mixes aspirin, caffeine, and codeine. The piece that matters here is the caffeine, which your liver partly clears using the CYP3A4 enzyme. Berberine, the active compound in tree turmeric, can mildly slow that enzyme down. In plain terms, your caffeine could hang around a bit longer than usual, so you might feel jittery, have a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or an upset stomach.
The good news is this is a fairly gentle effect, and ordinary cooking or seasoning amounts of turmeric won't do much. Concentrated berberine supplements are where it could add up. Aspirin and codeine aren't really driven by this same pathway, so the main thing to watch is feeling overly wired. If you take a tree turmeric supplement regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
4 of 4Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
In vitro and animal research suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
This combination product contains aspirin, which already thins the blood by keeping platelets from clumping together. Tree turmeric (from its berberine content) may do something similar. In test tube and animal studies, berberine slowed platelet activity, so stacking it on top of aspirin could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk a little higher. Real-world signs to watch for would be easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or stomach upset.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: it's early and theoretical, based on lab work rather than people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since aspirin is involved, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric, especially if you bleed or bruise easily.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Caffeine, Codeine Phosphate page
“Anacin with Codeine combines aspirin, caffeine, and codeine, and each of the three picks up its own supplement problems, so this is a list worth real caution. Just over half of the 398 ingredients here, 202 of them, can add to aspirin's blood-thinning action and raise bleeding risk.”
