Benazepril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the simple version: berberine, the active part of tree turmeric, may nudge your blood pressure downward on its own. Since benazepril (Lotensin) already works to lower blood pressure, pairing the two could add up and push your numbers a little too low.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or off-balance, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest about the evidence, though: this is mostly based on animal and lab studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Culinary pinches aren't likely to matter, but concentrated berberine supplements could. If you'd like to try it, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your blood pressure.

What Is Benazepril Used For?

Brand name: Lotensin

Benazepril — sold as Lotensin and under the generic names Benazepril and Benazepril Hydrochloride — is approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks.

It can be used on its own or combined with a thiazide diuretic (water pill) when blood pressure needs extra control. Lotensin is specifically indicated for the treatment of hypertension to lower blood pressure.
