Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear clomipramine. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. If it does, clomipramine can build up more than usual in your system, which can make its effects and side effects stronger.

For clomipramine, that might mean more drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, a faster heartbeat, or trouble with urination. Keep in mind this is mostly based on lab work and some early human data, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a sure thing. Still, since this is a sensitive medication, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric or berberine, rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

Here's the gist with clomipramine and tree turmeric. The berberine in tree turmeric may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the enzymes that helps clear clomipramine from your body. When that enzyme is blocked, the drug can build up a bit higher than usual. Clomipramine isn't a prodrug, so more drug in your system means a stronger effect, not a weaker one.

In practical terms, that could mean more of clomipramine's usual side effects, like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat. Right now this is mostly theoretical, based on early, lower-quality research, so don't panic. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a concentrated berberine supplement.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear clomipramine out of your system. The berberine in tree turmeric can slow that enzyme down. When clearance slows, more clomipramine can hang around in your blood, which may amp up its effects and side effects.

For clomipramine, that could mean more dry mouth, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, or a faster heartbeat. This concern is mostly theoretical and based on early data, so it isn't a sure thing, but clomipramine is a drug worth being careful with. Please don't change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing concentrated berberine supplements with it.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
