Fluphenazine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down and clear fluphenazine. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. So in theory, taking the two together could let fluphenazine build up higher than expected in your system.

If that happens, you might notice more of fluphenazine's usual side effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, muscle stiffness or restlessness, or tremor. Fluphenazine isn't a prodrug, so it stays in its active form longer, not weaker. I'll be honest though, this concern is mostly theoretical and the human evidence is thin. Food amounts of turmeric aren't the worry; concentrated berberine supplements are. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

About Fluphenazine

What Is Fluphenazine Used For?

Brand names: Prolixin, Permitil, Fluphenazine

Fluphenazine hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are indicated for the management of psychotic disorders. Fluphenazine Hydrochloride Injection is also used for psychotic disorders and can bridge patients to oral therapy.

Fluphenazine Decanoate Injection is a long-acting form specifically intended for patients who need extended antipsychotic treatment — for example, those with chronic schizophrenia who benefit from a single injection that can last up to four weeks or longer. It is not approved for behavioral problems related to intellectual disability, and it is not approved for dementia-related psychosis in elderly patients.
