Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Avalide is a two-in-one blood pressure pill: irbesartan relaxes your blood vessels, and hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) helps your body shed extra fluid. Tree turmeric, thanks to its berberine, may gently lower blood pressure on its own. So when you stack them, the worry is simply too much of a good thing, your pressure dropping lower than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or wobbly when you stand up quickly. Keep in mind this caution comes mostly from animal and lab studies, so it's more of a theoretical heads-up than a proven problem. Still, it's smart to check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric, and to keep an eye on your blood pressure readings if you do.

Here's the thing with Avalide, which combines irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide. The irbesartan part is partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Berberine, the active compound in tree turmeric, may slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let irbesartan build up slightly, which might nudge your blood pressure lower than expected. You could notice things like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, or feeling unusually tired.

I want to be honest though: this is based on early, lower-quality evidence, so it's more of a 'keep an eye out' than a 'sound the alarm.' If you'd like to try tree turmeric, just loop in your pharmacist or doctor first, since it can also affect blood sugar on its own.
