Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Diovan HCT pairs two blood pressure medicines: valsartan, which relaxes your blood vessels, and hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill that helps your body shed extra fluid and salt. Tree turmeric (and its main ingredient, berberine) appears to gently lower blood pressure on its own. So if you add it to a medicine already designed to bring your numbers down, the effects could stack.

If your pressure drops too low, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up, along with tiredness or even faintness. That said, this concern comes mostly from animal and lab research, so it's more of a theoretical caution than something proven in people. Please don't change either one on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your home blood pressure readings.

Here's the situation with Diovan HCT (valsartan plus hydrochlorothiazide) and tree turmeric. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways your body uses to help clear valsartan. If that pathway gets blocked, a little more valsartan could linger in your system than usual.

In plain terms, that might nudge its blood-pressure-lowering effect a bit stronger. You could notice things like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired. That said, this is mostly theoretical and based on early, lower-quality research, so it's not a guaranteed problem. Concentrated berberine supplements are more likely to matter than small amounts. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
