Olanzapine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist for olanzapine: your body partly clears it using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. The berberine in tree turmeric can slow that enzyme down. Because olanzapine works as-is (it's not a prodrug that needs activating), slowing its breakdown could let a bit more of it build up in your system.

In practice, that might mean stronger olanzapine effects, such as extra drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling groggy. The good news is this is mostly theoretical, based on lab work and limited human data, and CYP2D6 is only one of several ways your body handles olanzapine. Still, since both can be sedating, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than stopping anything on your own.

About Olanzapine

What Is Olanzapine Used For?

Brand name: Zyprexa

Olanzapine treats schizophrenia and the manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in both adults and adolescents (ages 13–17). It can also be used alongside valproate or lithium to treat manic or mixed episodes in adults. When combined with fluoxetine, olanzapine tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are used to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant depression in adults.

Olanzapine intramuscular injection (short-acting) is used by healthcare providers to quickly calm acute agitation in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar I mania. Zyprexa Relprevv — a separate, long-acting intramuscular formulation available only through a restricted program — is indicated specifically for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
