simvastatin/ezetimibe falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the thing with Vytorin: the simvastatin half is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Berberine, the active part of tree turmeric, appears to slow that enzyme down. When that happens, simvastatin can build up in your body more than expected, and stronger statin levels usually mean a higher chance of side effects.

For simvastatin that mainly means muscle aches, weakness, or soreness, and rarely, more serious muscle breakdown that can affect the kidneys. The ezetimibe portion isn't really affected this way. The evidence here is decent but the effect is described as moderate, so don't panic. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a berberine supplement so they can watch your dose and any muscle symptoms.
