Zanubrutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the simple version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear zanubrutinib (Brukinsa). The berberine in tree turmeric can partly block that enzyme. When the cleanup crew slows down, more zanubrutinib can linger in your bloodstream than expected.

For this cancer medicine, higher levels could mean a greater chance of side effects like bruising or bleeding, low blood counts, infections, tiredness, or an irregular heartbeat. The actual clinical effect with tree turmeric is mostly theoretical, but berberine is a real CYP3A4 inhibitor, so it's worth taking seriously. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Talk with your oncology team or pharmacist before adding tree turmeric or berberine supplements.

About Zanubrutinib

What Is Zanubrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Brukinsa

Brukinsa (zanubrutinib) is used to treat adult patients with certain blood cancers. It treats mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) in patients who have had at least one prior therapy, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), relapsed or refractory marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) after at least one prior anti-CD20 treatment, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

Brukinsa is also used — in combination with another medicine called obinutuzumab — to treat relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma (FL) in adults who have already received two or more lines of treatment. Several of these uses were granted accelerated FDA approval based on response rates, meaning confirmatory trials are still ongoing.
