Turmeric + danicopan
danicopan brand name: Voydeya.
danicopan falls into 2 drug categories that Turmeric can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, turmeric might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Read the full interaction reportTurmeric and danicopan
These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Turmeric interacts with whole categories of medication. danicopan falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Turmeric in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to danicopan
danicopan falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Turmeric interacts with.
There is concern that turmeric might cause hepatotoxicity, especially when highly bioavailable formulations are used in high doses.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version for you. Danicopan (Voydeya) is a medicine that can, on its own, put some stress on your liver, so your doctor may already check your liver enzymes while you're on it. The concern with turmeric isn't about how danicopan is broken down. It's that concentrated turmeric or curcumin supplements have, in rare cases, been linked to liver irritation too. Stack two things that can bother the liver and you may raise the odds of trouble.
To be clear, this is theoretical and based on scattered reports, not strong proof. Everyday amounts of turmeric in food are very unlikely to matter. High-dose, high-absorption supplements are the real question. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, or belly pain, and check with your pharmacist before adding a turmeric supplement.

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
2 of 2danicopan also falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES.
In vitro and animal research shows that curcuminoids and other constituents found in turmeric can inhibit P-glycoprotein expression and activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version for anyone taking danicopan (Voydeya) alongside turmeric. Danicopan is a substrate of a little cellular pump called P-glycoprotein, which helps move the drug in and out of your gut wall. The curcumin in turmeric may gently slow that pump down, so in theory a bit more danicopan could get absorbed. If levels edged up, you might notice more of its typical effects, like headache or stomach upset.
Now the reassuring part: this is graded as a minor interaction, and the evidence comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people. Everyday cooking amounts of turmeric are very unlikely to matter. Concentrated curcumin supplements are the bigger question mark, so just run those by your pharmacist or doctor before starting them.

About Turmeric
What is Turmeric?
- Joint pain and arthritis
- Inflammation
- Digestive upset
- Antioxidant support
- Skin conditions
Turmeric is a popular spice whose main active compounds, curcuminoids, are studied mostly for inflammation and joint pain. Some research is promising, but quality is mixed and curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own. For most people, dietary amounts are safe, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated supplements, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or have a medical condition.
