Here's the concern with combining turmeric and Kynamro (mipomersen). Mipomersen is already known to be hard on the liver, which is why people taking it get regular blood tests to watch their liver enzymes. Turmeric, mainly in concentrated, high-dose, highly absorbable supplement forms, has occasionally been linked to liver irritation too. So the worry is that stacking two things that can stress the liver might add up.

To be honest, this is a theoretical caution based on scattered case reports, not strong proof. The turmeric you cook with in food is very unlikely to be a problem. Still, because mipomersen carries real liver risk, I'd skip concentrated turmeric capsules unless your doctor or pharmacist okays it, and report any yellowing skin, dark urine, nausea, or unusual tiredness.

About Mipomersen Injection

What Is Mipomersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Kynamro

  • Mipomersen injection is used to decrease levels of cholesterol and other fatty substances in the blood in people who have homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH; a rare inherited condition that causes very high levels of cholesterol in the blood, increasing the risk of serious heart disease). Some people with HoFH may be treated with LDL apheresis (a procedure that removes LDL from the blood), but mipomersen injection should not be used along with this treatment. Mipomersen injection should not be used to decrease cholesterol levels in people who do not have HoFH. Mipomersen injection is in a class of medications called antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) inhibitors. It works by preventing certain fatty substances from forming in the body.
