Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: this combo, Phenobarbital with Phenytoin, already does a good job of calming the brain. Phenobarbital especially is a barbiturate, so it can leave you drowsy, foggy, or unsteady on your feet. The concern with yerba mansa is purely theoretical. The thought is that if the plant has any mild sedating quality of its own, it could pile on top of these medicines and make you sleepier or more slowed down than usual.

To be honest, there is no solid human research showing this actually happens, so I wouldn't panic. Still, because these are seizure medicines and even small effects matter, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding yerba mansa, and watch for extra drowsiness or dizziness.
