Bio-Kult Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Bio-Kult
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Bio-Kult against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Bio-Kult contains 14 active probiotic ingredients—a mix of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species, plus Streptococcus thermophilus and Bacillus subtilis. These are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut flora.
The capsule itself is made of cellulose and a vegetable capsule shell; there are no other inactive fillers listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for Bio-Kult's individual strains is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are each marked as possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and L. acidophilus is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus subtilis is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea as well. Most other conditions listed for the ingredients—allergies, asthma, cognitive decline, anxiety—show insufficient reliable evidence.
We don't have effectiveness data on file for several of the strains in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bio-Kult is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. The live organisms can rarely cause gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea, though these are uncommon.
There is a theoretical concern that live probiotics could cause infection (bacteremia, sepsis, or abscess) in people who are severely ill, immunocompromised, or have indwelling catheters; cases are rare and mostly reported in preterm infants or critically ill patients, not in otherwise healthy people. Pregnancy is marked as possibly safe for some strains (L. acidophilus, Streptococcus thermophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium bifidum), but data are limited; check with your doctor before use in pregnancy.
Breastfeeding safety data are not on file.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start Bio-Kult, check with your pharmacist if you take antibiotic drugs. The live bacteria in this product may lose effectiveness if taken at the same time as an antibiotic.
No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Bio-Kult is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or some digestive concerns, though the evidence for most conditions is limited. If you take antibiotics, separate them from this supplement by several hours so the probiotic organisms don't get killed.
If you're severely ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant, talk with your doctor first.

Bio-Kult by Bio-Kult Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Bio-Kult is a 14-ingredient probiotic capsule containing live Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains, among others.
The most serious documented interaction is with antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity). Several of the live bacterial strains—Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus helveticus—may have their effectiveness reduced if taken at the same time as antibiotics, because the antibiotic can kill the live organisms before they establish themselves.

Additionally, Streptococcus thermophilus (one of the checked ingredients in this product) shows no interactions documented in our data. We were unable to check five other ingredients in this product—Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium infantis, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactococcus lactis—because we hold no interaction data for them.
Additionally, to be safe, separate your antibiotic dose from this probiotic by at least a few hours (ask your pharmacist or doctor for the specific timing that works best for your situation). Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
