Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hu Zhang product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hu Zhang's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The effectiveness evidence for hu zhang in this product is not established. The data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for hepatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, wound healing, gout, osteoarthritis, or unstable angina — the conditions for which it has been studied.

That means the research to date hasn't been strong or consistent enough to say whether it works.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hu zhang is generally used in traditional medicine, but human safety data for supplements are limited. The ingredient's emodin content may cause digestive upset in some people.

Regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding: there is not enough safety information for either, so the safety data advises against use during pregnancy and lactation — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Hu Zhang.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 827 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take Bioforte, double-check any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs you're on (such as warfarin or aspirin) — hu zhang may increase bleeding risk. Also run through any medications metabolized by liver enzymes CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP3A4, or CYP2E1, as well as estrogen replacement therapy and carbamazepine (Tegretol).

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. Resveratrol seems to have antiplatelet effects.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP1A2 enzyme. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP2C19 enzyme. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP2E1 enzyme. Also, a pharmacokinetic study shows that taking resveratrol 500 mg daily for 10 days prior to taking a single dose of chlorzoxazone 250 mg increases the maximum concentration of chlorzoxazone by about 54%, the area under the curve of chlorzoxazone by about 72%, and the half-life of chlorzoxazone by about 35%. Chlorzoxazone is used as a probe drug for CYP2E1.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Estrogens

Theoretically, hu zhang might competitively inhibit the effects of estrogen replacement therapy.
In vitro research shows that hu zhang might have estrogenic activity.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Carbamazepine (Tegretol)

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase the effects and adverse effects of carbamazepine.
In animals, blood and tissue levels of carbamazepine were increased when given in combination with hu zhang. It is thought that increased levels of carbamazepine are due to cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) inhibition. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Bioforte by Biotivia Longevity Bioceuticals: Common Questions

Does Bioforte by Biotivia Longevity Bioceuticals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Bioforte has a known interaction with 826 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Bioforte contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take Bioforte if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against it — there isn't enough information about hu zhang's safety in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and some of its compounds may affect the uterus or bowel. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it in either situation.
Does Bioforte actually work for arthritis, gout, or wound healing?
The evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether it works for any of these conditions — rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, wound healing, hepatitis, or unstable angina. Research hasn't been strong or consistent enough yet to support a clear claim.
What are the side effects of hu zhang?
Adverse effects aren't detailed in our data, but the ingredient's emodin content may cause digestive upset. Human safety data for this supplement are limited overall.
Why does this single-ingredient product interact with so many drugs?
Hu zhang contains resveratrol, which may inhibit several liver enzymes (CYP1A2, CYP2C19, CYP3A4, and CYP2E1) that break down a very large number of common medications. When those enzymes are slowed, drug levels can build up in your system — which is why the interaction list is broad.
Is it safe to take Bioforte with my blood thinner?
No — this is a documented Moderate-severity concern. Hu zhang has antiplatelet effects that might add to your blood thinner's effect and increase your bleeding risk. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Bioforte alongside any anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug.
