Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Garcinia Trim contains one active ingredient: garcinia cambogia fruit rind extract, which is standardized to deliver hydroxycitric acid (HCA), the compound believed to be responsible for garcinia's effects. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and gelatin — which are binders, flow agents, and the capsule shell itself.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Garcinia's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: weight loss and appetite control support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Obesity, body weight management, emotional eating, metabolic support.
  • The closest evidence on file: Garcinia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Obesity (Natural Medicines).

The evidence on garcinia for weight loss and related conditions isn't established enough for us to rate it reliably. The data we hold shows insufficient evidence for athletic performance, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), and obesity.

That doesn't mean garcinia doesn't work — it means the studies available don't give us a clear answer yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Garcinia is generally well tolerated over the short term. The most common side effects are mild — diarrhea, stomach upset, headache, and nausea — though they're not universal.

Rare but serious adverse effects have been reported: liver injury, liver failure, mania (especially in people with bipolar disorder), pancreatitis, and one case of a serious heart inflammation. The liver concerns are important enough that we advise caution, especially if you're taking other medications that can affect your liver.

There isn't enough safety data to use garcinia during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The safety notes advise against it in both cases, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Garcinia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 705 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before starting Garcinia Trim, double-check with us if you take any serotonergic drugs — that's antidepressants, certain pain or migraine medications — because there's a case report of serotonin syndrome. Also flag blood thinners (anticoagulants) like warfarin, antiplatelet drugs like aspirin and clopidogrel, diabetes medications, and any drugs known to potentially harm the liver.

NEW WEIGHT-LOSS BREAKTHROUGH

QUALITY SATISFACTION GUARANTEE: If, for whatever reason, you are not satisfied, return it to your original place of purchase for the appropriate refund.

On a popular medical show, America's most trusted doctor named an Asian fruit called Garcinia cambogia as a standout diet aid, announcing "Revolutionary new research says it could be the ingredient that lets you lose weight without diet or exercise."

Garcinia owes its power to a compound called hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which has been shown to naturally suppress appetite by boosting serotonin. In a Georgetown University study, Garcinia increased subject's serotonin levels by up to 45%, while reducing levels of leptin, a hunger-revving hormone, by up to 38%. And so the theory says, with more serotonin, emotional urges to eat seem to decrease.

Garcinia cambogia (fruit rind) extract4 drug types · 704 drugs

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), the main active ingredient in garcinia, might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
HCA inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. The inhibitory effect seems to be greater in platelets extracted from diabetic subjects than non-diabetic subjects.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), the main active ingredient in garcinia, might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
HCA reduces fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels in animal models, theoretically by delaying glucose absorption. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Hepatotoxic Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of developing liver damage.
There have been reports of acute hepatitis with elevated liver enzymes associated with garcinia, when taken alone or in combination with other ingredients. Case reports collected from the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network suggest this risk may be greater in people who carry the HLA B*35:01 allele.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Serotonergic Drugs

Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.

Garcinia Trim by BioGenetic Laboratories: Common Questions

Does Garcinia Trim by BioGenetic Laboratories interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Garcinia Trim has a known interaction with 704 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Garcinia Trim contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will Garcinia Trim actually help me lose weight?
The honest answer is we don't have reliable evidence to say yes or no yet. The studies we have aren't conclusive enough to rate how well it works for weight loss or obesity. If you're curious, it's worth discussing with your pharmacist to see if it makes sense for your situation.
What are the most common side effects?
Most people who take garcinia don't report problems, but some experience mild ones: diarrhea, stomach discomfort, headache, or nausea. These aren't serious, but if they bother you, let us know.
I've heard garcinia can cause liver problems. How worried should I be?
It's rare, but there are reports of acute hepatitis and liver injury tied to garcinia, especially when taken over time. That's why we recommend caution — if you're at risk for liver problems or take medications that stress your liver, talk with your pharmacist before starting it.
Can I take this if I'm on an antidepressant?
There's one case report of serotonin syndrome when garcinia was combined with an SSRI antidepressant, so yes, this is something to check. Don't start garcinia on your own — bring your antidepressant bottle and let us look it up for you.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
No — there isn't enough safety data, and the guidance says to avoid it. If you're pregnant or trying to get pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether garcinia is right for you.
What is hydroxycitric acid and why is it in here?
Hydroxycitric acid, or HCA, is the main active compound in garcinia extract. It's believed to be what gives garcinia its effects — though as I mentioned, the evidence for those effects isn't solid yet.
