Bifidobacterium lactis is also possibly effective for respiratory tract infections and constipation. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for bacterial vaginosis and Helicobacter pylori.
Saccharomyces boulardii is possibly effective for rotaviral diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and Clostridioides difficile infection (the serious hospital-acquired diarrhea). How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these probiotic strains are generally well tolerated by healthy adults and children. The most common side effect reported is gastrointestinal — diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, and burping can occur, though these are uncommon.
A small number of trial participants taking a combination of these probiotics reported rash and itching, though it's unclear if those were due to this product or another cause. There is rare but documented concern that live probiotics can cause infection (bacteremia, sepsis, or other serious infections) in people who are critically ill, immunocompromised, or have central lines; these cases are thought to occur when bacteria move from other parts of the body.
Lactobacillus acidophilus has been isolated in a small number of severe infections (liver abscess, meningitis, endocarditis), though this is uncommon. For Saccharomyces boulardii specifically, rare cases of fungemia have been reported, mostly in intensive care patients.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
