What’s inside
Low disclosure
Jarro-Dophilus Ultra 50 Billion CFU contains 10 active probiotic ingredients: Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BL-04, Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus R0011, Bifidobacterium longum BB536, Lactobacillus helveticus R0052, Bifidobacterium breve BR-03, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Lp-115, Lacticaseibacillus casei Lc-11, Ligilactobacillus salivarius Ls-33, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei Lpc-37, and Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14. These are live beneficial bacteria (probiotics) meant to support digestive and immune health.
The product also contains inactive ingredients—sodium alginate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, water, calcium phosphate, tapioca starch, maltodextrin, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and ascorbic acid—which serve as fillers, binders, and stabilizers to keep the capsule shelf-stable and the organisms viable.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for effectiveness varies by strain and condition. Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum are possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea (loose stools that occur after taking antibiotics); L. rhamnosus is also possibly effective for eczema and related allergic conditions, and L. plantarum is possibly effective for high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis, and common cold.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. For most other conditions and the remaining strains, the evidence isn't established in our data—either insufficient evidence exists or effectiveness hasn't been well studied.
Talk with your doctor about whether this product makes sense for your specific health goal.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy people. However, the safety data are limited, and caution is advised for anyone who is seriously ill or has a weakened immune system—in rare cases, live bacteria from probiotic supplements have caused infection in such patients.
Gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and nausea are uncommon but have been reported. A couple of strains note rare cases of rash in clinical trials, though it wasn't clear whether the rash was from the probiotic itself or from other factors.
Because safety data are limited overall, check with your doctor before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a serious underlying condition.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, do not take this product at the same time. Antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in the supplement, reducing its effectiveness.
Space them apart and confirm the timing with your doctor or pharmacist. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check, though one strain (Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BL-04) we were unable to check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Jarro-Dophilus Ultra is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with antibiotic-associated diarrhea, certain allergic conditions, and digestive issues like IBS, though evidence varies by strain. The main thing to watch: if you're on antibiotics, separate the timing so the antibiotics don't kill off the live cultures.
If you're very ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first—the safety data are limited in those groups.

Jarro-Dophilus Ultra 50 Billion CFU by Jarrow Formulas Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Jarro-Dophilus Ultra 50 Billion CFU contains nine probiotic strains, and through its Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus helveticus, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Lacticaseibacillus casei, Ligilactobacillus salivarius, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei, and Lactobacillus acidophilus content, it interacts with antibiotic drugs.
The interaction is Moderate in severity: because these probiotics contain live organisms, taking them at the same time as antibiotics might kill off a significant portion of the beneficial bacteria, reducing the supplement's intended effect. You'll want to separate when you take them—your doctor or pharmacist can advise on the best timing for your specific antibiotic.

One ingredient, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis BL-04, we could not check for interactions. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and stomach discomfort have been reported with several of these strains, though such events are uncommon. There is also a theoretical concern that live probiotics could cause infection in patients who are very ill or have weakened immune systems—this is rare but worth discussing with your doctor if you fall into that category.
