What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: chromium. You're getting 800 micrograms (mcg) of chromium in picolinate form — that's the chemical form the body uses most readily.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients (cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, and silica) that help hold it together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency, which is rare but can happen. For type 2 diabetes, the evidence suggests it's possibly effective — some research shows benefit, especially when blood sugar control is poor.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), the data we hold rates it possibly ineffective. The same goes for high blood pressure and schizophrenia — evidence doesn't support its use there.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are mild: gastrointestinal upset, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects — kidney and liver damage, muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), and low platelets — have been reported, as have skin rashes and contact dermatitis in people sensitive to chromium. For pregnancy and breastfeeding, small amounts from a balanced diet or prenatal vitamin are generally accepted, but extra supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it.
High or long-term doses may pose risks, and limited safety data exist on higher doses.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you take insulin or diabetes medications (risk of low blood sugar), levothyroxine or other thyroid drugs (reduced absorption), or regular NSAIDs or aspirin (possible increase in chromium levels). No interactions are documented for the other ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is worth considering if you have a chromium deficiency or want to explore its possibly effective role in type 2 diabetes — but only under your doctor's oversight if you take diabetes medications or insulin. If you're on levothyroxine, talk to your pharmacist about timing.

Mega Chromium Picolinate 800 mcg by DC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Mega Chromium Picolinate 800 mcg by DC contains one active ingredient — chromium — that interacts with a number of medication types.
The most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetes drugs (medications that lower blood sugar), where chromium may add to their effect and raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Some research shows chromium can lower blood glucose, especially in people with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a thyroid medication — it may bind the drug in your intestines and reduce how much your body absorbs. Clinical research found that chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreased levothyroxine levels by 17%.
Additionally, NSAIDs (pain relievers like ibuprofen and naproxen) and aspirin may increase how much chromium your body absorbs, which theoretically could raise chromium levels in your blood.
Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications. If you take insulin, diabetes pills, levothyroxine, or pain relievers regularly, run them through the checker below before you start this product.

Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
