Pro-Male Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Pro-Male against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside
Full disclosure
Pro-Male is a single-ingredient product containing saw palmetto extract in capsule form. Saw palmetto is a botanical supplement derived from the fruit of the saw palmetto plant, traditionally used in men's health formulations.
The capsule also contains cellulose, gelatin, and vegetable stearate as inactive ingredients (binders and capsule material).
Does it work?
Leans against
The data we hold on saw palmetto shows mixed results. It's rated possibly effective for one specific urinary procedure (TURP — transurethral resection of the prostate), but possibly ineffective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is a common reason men take saw palmetto.
For other uses like hair loss or chronic bronchitis, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saw palmetto is generally well tolerated, and side effects that do occur tend to be mild and reversible. The most common ones include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, and vomiting.
Rarely, cases of heart rhythm changes and high or low blood pressure have been reported. There's also one documented case of a skin reaction (fixed drug eruption) that cleared when the supplement was stopped.
Saw palmetto is not safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The safety data advises against use in both situations because of possible effects on hormones and insufficient safety information.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start Pro-Male, check your medications against these drug types: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants and antiplatelets) — saw palmetto may increase bleeding risk; estrogens and birth control pills (contraceptive drugs) — saw palmetto might make them less effective. Use the search tool on this page to look up your specific prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pro-Male is a straightforward saw palmetto supplement that may appeal to men interested in prostate health, though the evidence for its effectiveness in benign prostatic hyperplasia is limited. If you take blood thinners, birth control, or estrogens, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — saw palmetto may interfere with how these work.
It's not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
