What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: saw palmetto (SPET-085). Saw palmetto is a plant extract traditionally used for prostate and urinary symptoms.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — sesame seed oil, vegetable cellulose, beeswax, and mixed tocopherols — which help form and preserve the supplement.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence on saw palmetto is mixed. For transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), a surgical procedure for prostate removal, it's possibly effective.
For benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — enlargement of the prostate gland — the evidence suggests it may not be effective. For chronic bronchitis, male-pattern baldness, and lower urinary tract symptoms, the evidence isn't established well enough to rate.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saw palmetto is generally well tolerated in adults, with mild, infrequent side effects. The most common ones are abdominal pain, constipation, decreased libido, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, and sinus inflammation.
Rarely, skin reactions like blisters and sores have been reported, as well as heart issues such as high blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, and irregular heartbeat — though these are uncommon. You should avoid this product during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
The safety data is insufficient, and saw palmetto's hormone-related effects raise concern.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin, warfarin, or clopidogrel) — saw palmetto may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you're taking birth control pills or estrogen therapy, since saw palmetto may reduce their effectiveness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Saw palmetto may help with certain prostate procedures, though its benefits for enlarged prostate itself aren't clear. If you take blood thinners, birth control, or hormone therapy, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — saw palmetto can interfere with how they work.
Stop and contact your healthcare provider if you notice unusual bleeding, chest pain, or an irregular heartbeat.
