What’s inside
Low disclosure
Saccharomyces 10B contains one active ingredient: Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM I-3799, a beneficial yeast strain used to support digestive health. The capsule also contains hypromellose, an inactive ingredient that helps deliver the probiotic.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for Saccharomyces boulardii shows it is possibly effective for several types of diarrhea: rotaviral diarrhea, travelers' diarrhea, and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. It is also possibly effective for preventing necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious intestinal condition in premature infants), reducing Clostridioides difficile infection (a severe gut infection), and supporting treatment of Helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacteria).
Because the evidence is 'possibly effective' rather than proven, results can vary from person to person.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Saccharomyces boulardii is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but safety data is limited and it should not be used by people who are critically ill or immunocompromised — talk with your doctor before taking it in those situations. Rarely, oral use has caused fungemia (a yeast infection in the bloodstream), particularly in critically ill patients in the ICU, those with central lines, or those on broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Gastrointestinal side effects are uncommon but can include abdominal cramps, gas, nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite. There is not enough data on use during pregnancy or breastfeeding — discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before you take Saccharomyces 10B, double-check any antifungal medications you're on — including prescription and over-the-counter antifungals for yeast, fungal, or mold infections. Antifungals may reduce how well this probiotic works by killing the live yeast it contains.
Your doctor or pharmacist can advise on spacing or adjusting your routine.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Saccharomyces boulardii may help with several types of diarrhea if the evidence applies to your situation. It's generally well tolerated by healthy adults, but people who are critically ill, immunocompromised, or on central lines should avoid it and discuss with their doctor first.
If you take any antifungal medication, check with your pharmacist about timing before you start this probiotic.
