Tribulus is generally well tolerated in the short term in healthy adults, but quality data and long-term safety information are limited. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints — stomach pain, cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation — though in one study these occurred at similar rates in people taking tribulus and those on placebo.

Rare but serious effects have been reported, including liver and kidney injury, seizures, and a case of lower limb weakness and acute kidney injury in someone who drank very large amounts of tribulus water over two days. Avoid this product during pregnancy because it may affect hormones and safety is not established.

Also avoid it while breastfeeding due to lack of reliable safety information.
