Here's the simple version: chlordiazepoxide (Librium) already calms your brain down, which is why it eases anxiety and alcohol withdrawal but can also leave you drowsy, foggy, or slow to react. 5-HTP raises serotonin levels, and in studies it has caused some people to feel sleepy too. Put them together and those drowsy effects may stack up, so you could feel more tired, lightheaded, or less steady on your feet than usual.

I'll be honest, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how each one works rather than strong proof from studies. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you drive or notice any extra grogginess. Please don't stop or change either one on your own.

What Is Chlordiazepoxide Used For?

Brand name: Librium

Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to relieve withdrawal symptoms in acute alcoholism, and to reduce apprehension and anxiety before surgery.

Note that everyday stress and tension do not usually require an anxiety medication like this one. Long-term use beyond 4 months has not been well-studied, so your prescriber should periodically check whether it is still the right fit for you.
