Here's the thing to keep in mind if you're pairing 5-HTP with Addyi (flibanserin). Flibanserin already works on serotonin in the brain, and one of its best-known side effects is making people sleepy, dizzy, or lightheaded. 5-HTP, which your body turns into serotonin, has also been linked to drowsiness in studies. Put them together and those calming, sleepy effects could simply stack up.

In real life that might mean feeling more groggy or faint than usual, especially when standing up. I'll be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how both work, not something proven in big studies, so I'm not trying to scare you. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, particularly since flibanserin and alcohol already don't mix well.

What Is Flibanserin Used For?

Brand name: Addyi

Addyi is approved to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — a condition where low sexual desire causes significant distress or relationship difficulty — in women under 65. "Acquired" means the low desire developed after a period of normal desire; "generalized" means it happens regardless of the situation or partner.

Addyi is not intended for use in men, and it is not a sexual performance enhancer. It is also not meant for HSDD that is caused by a medical condition, a psychiatric condition, relationship problems, or another medication.
