Gabapentin enacarbil falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group 5-htp interacts with.

Here's the simple version: both 5-HTP and Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) can make you feel sleepy on their own. Put them together and that drowsiness may stack up. So you might notice more tiredness, dizziness, foggy thinking, or trouble staying alert than you'd expect from the Horizant alone. That matters more if you drive, operate machinery, or take your Horizant in the evening for restless legs syndrome.

This isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. It's just two things that calm the nervous system adding up. The warning is mostly theoretical, based on how these work and on reports of drowsiness with 5-HTP, so it may not happen to everyone. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your Horizant on your own.

About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand name: Horizant

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
