Dextroamphetamine falls under Serotonergic Drugs — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.

Some animal studies have reported that ashwagandha can enhance serotonergic transmission by altering certain serotonin (5-HT) receptors. However, there is no evidence to suggest that ashwagandha increases the risk of serotonin-related effects, and there have been no published case reports of serotonin syndrome when combined with other serotonergic drugs. Nevertheless, due to the lack of extensive studies on the matter and the fact that ashwagandha appears to affect serotonergic pathways, it would be prudent to exercise caution when combining it with drugs that affect serotonin. Here's the short version: dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine, Xelstrym) nudges up brain chemicals including serotonin, and ashwagandha may gently touch serotonin pathways too. So in theory, taking them together could add up. The catch is that this idea comes mostly from animal studies. There are no real-world reports of problems when ashwagandha is combined with serotonin-affecting medicines, and this is rated a minor, low-evidence interaction.

What I'd keep a casual eye on is feeling more wired than usual, faster heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or restlessness. Those are typical stimulant effects, not proof of anything serious. If you'd like to try ashwagandha, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so it fits your full medication list.

What Is Dextroamphetamine Used For?

Brand name: Dexedrine

Dextroamphetamine treats two conditions: ADHD and narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness). It is available in multiple forms — tablets, extended-release capsules, oral solution, and a skin patch — and the approved age ranges vary by product.

Oral tablets (Zenzedi, generic) and oral solutions (Procentra, generic) are approved for ADHD in children as young as 3 years old and for narcolepsy. Extended-release capsules (Dexedrine, generic) are approved for ADHD in children ages 6 to 16 and for narcolepsy. Xelstrym, the transdermal patch, is approved only for ADHD — in adults and children ages 6 and older — and is not indicated for narcolepsy.
